All things being equal, the Classic Steakhouse is still very much alive, at least according to Gordon Ramsay. It should be easy to identify 8 common cuts of beef, but not so for our contestants. Even more challenging, identify where each cut comes from on the full size steer or lose the challenge. The Red Team Girls tried hard, but the Blue Team Guys again won the challenge. That left the second place finishers to break down sides of beef for steakhouse service, while the winners jetted to a winery and steakhouse. Sides of beef? Are you kidding me?! The fact that very few butcher shops use beef by the side is testament more to the advancement of food production than to the fact that very few chefs have EVER broken down a whole side of beef. The fact that Paula and her crew took knife and steel to the carcasses of beef with such vigor and tenacity showed that this team is one to be reckoned with. The guys could have used the same lesson, at least judging by the way one contestant mangled a beautiful beef tenderloin.
Turning Hell's Kitchen into a Steakhouse was great fun to watch, even though our good friend Giovanni had an off night on the grill...giving the distinct opening Paula and the Red Team Girls needed. Paula had a few moments on screen, but the camera's main focus is firmly on several others who, by their own doing have provided so much unintended humor by their antics and personality. The girls pulled it out and won the service, giving them at least one day of reprieve.
Episode five is just days away and the party continues at Harbor Beach every Thursday. This week one of Paula's Red Team Girls, Andrea Heinly will be hanging out with Paula. Stop by and say hi if you are in Ft Lauderdale, and while there, check out why Florida Table has such great things to say about 3030 Ocean, Hell's Kitchen is edited to be sure, but the personalities and reactions do seem very real. These chefs - some more chef than others- are trying hard to win and prove they belong. The ones we have not heard from yet, including Paula, seem to be the ones to watch out for. We'll just have to keep watching!
