Last week I was in Baltimore with some colleagues and the discussion came up (over crabcakes and Old Bay) of favorite places and favorite foods in favorite cities. When we got to the subject of Italian restaurants in Chicago, there was a unanimous verdict that Quartino deserved special mention. Not one of us had been to Chicago over the last two years without at least once venturing to Quartino, a relatively newer restaurant that feels like it has always been there.
Thinking about Chicago food led me to a great local food blog, chibbqking. This is the kind of resource I always need before traveling, a “where the locals go” insight of the best dives and BBQ joints in a city of great food, written by a self described member of “law enforcement or security”, though his photo looks remarkably like Clyde Darrow. Gritty and real, the author’s latest post of a great fish shack is exactly the kind of intel any serious food hunter needs before venturing out. Check out chibbqking before going to Chicago, Metrocurean before heading to DC, or Eating-Seattle before getting on the northwest-bound plane. In fact, Eating-Seattle has a great challenge on a recent post. What is “the best thing you ate all year”? A great question…
For me, it is probably something I found through the local bloggers. What's on YOUR plate?
Chef, thanks for the great review and shout out. Im glad my site can help you and others to find the gems you dont see on food network and read about in the local newspapers. If your ever in Chicago, give me an email and maybe I could show you around. We share a love for all things food. Titus.
I hope the next time you are in Baltimore talking crab cakes, you will come to ur facillity for lunch and enjoy some really finecakes. You and yours as you know are welcome anytime. All the best my friend and enjoy those kids over the holiday!! Take care
